La Crosse County Solid Waste Department

The La Crosse County Solid Waste Facility, located in La Crosse, Wisconsin, is the hub of a regional solid la crosse county logo 300x53 La Crosse County Solid Waste Departmentwaste management system that serves residents, businesses and industry in this county, and in several surrounding counties in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota. The La Crosse facility provides reuse, resource recovery, recycling and disposal services, in addition to programs designed to reduce the toxicity of various waste streams.

The La Crosse County Solid Waste Facility offers citizen Drop-off Area Rates with a $5.00 minimum fee per transactions.

The La Crosse Landfill is also your place to recycle your Mattresses and Box Springs $15.00 each

All loose waste loads must be properly tarped as per City Ordinance 15.12. We like to keep our local area roadways and landfill site clean.

At the La Crosse County Landfill we accept lots of different waste items including:
Household Garbage: Bagged waste, paper, food waste, recyclables etc.
Large Items: Furniture, bikes, grills, lawn mowers without gas and oil, mattresses, wash machines and dryers, etc
Demolition/Construction Debris: Drywall, doors, windows, sinks, toilets, tubs, roofing, bricks, carpets, flooring, etc.

Tires can be dropped off at the landfill for a by-weight charge of $250/ton. Be sure to check in on the scale before unloading, as dropping off tires require you to reweigh. Tires can be on or off the rim. Single car tires being dropped off are charged at $4.00 per tire.

Acceptable wastes

Yard Waste: $45/ton (Grass, leaves, household plants-paper bags ONLY)
Brush and clean wood: $22/ton (Brush, limbs, stumps less than 18” in diameter, pallets, untreated, unpainted, unstained wood)
Stumps Over 18” in Diameter: $50/ton
Shingles: $35/ton (Asphalt shingles only, must be free of other wastes. Tarpaper and nails ok)
Clean Fill: $10/ton (Gravel, sand, dirt, and rock ONLY)
Clean Concrete: Free, $5.00 minimum transaction fee applies (Must be chunk concrete from sidewalks, flooring, etc.)
Clean Blacktop: Free: ,$5.00 minimum transaction fee applies (Must be chunk blacktop)

Asbestos Citizens may bring in Friable or Non-friable Asbestos. Rate is $150.00/ton.  A permit is required to use this site (See businesses page for permit information and rates).

Unacceptable Citizen’s Area Items

The citizen’s area does not accept hazardous wastes. This includes: Fuels, paints, chemicals, fluorescent light, TV’s, computers, etc. These items should be taken to the Household Hazardous Materials Facility, which is located on the property.

Household Hazardous Materials area on site – Household hazardous waste is any substance containing ingredients that could negatively affect your safety, health or the environment.  Signal words found on hazardous products include poison, danger, warning and caution.
